Suffolk County Democrats have set a date to choose the next leader of their party.

The Suffolk Democratic Committee announced that its party convention will take place Sept. 22 in Melville, where members will cast ballots to select the party's next leader.

As News 12 reported, the vote comes as longtime party chairman Rich Schaffer faces a challenge from Kathryn Casey Quigley, the Democratic leader of Southold Town.

In a statement to News 12, a party spokesperson said, “Suffolk County Democrats will emerge united in our real goal this November to take back the House from Trump apologists and MAGA extremists and flipping numerous Assembly and Senate seats from red to blue.”
