State police say they are waiting for dental record confirmation and pending DNA results to identify the two people who died in separate fatal crashes at Sunken Meadow State Park.

Officials say the severe damage caused by the Sept. 14 crash and the intense fire that followed have made it difficult to positively identify the person.

Police have also not yet released the name of the driver killed in a second crash at the same location this past Monday, one week after the first incident.

Troopers said they will not speculate on the cause or circumstances of either crash, including whether they were intentional or accidental, or whether the two incidents are connected.

"Those are all matters investigators are working to determine," troopers said in a statement.

State police acknowledged that the two fatal crashes occurring at the same location within a short period of time have raised questions, but if there are any public safety concerns information will be provided on it.

New York State Parks officials previously said they will be analyzing mitigation measures to the toll plaza at the state park.
