Madonia Bakery, a longtime staple on Arthur Avenue, has been serving fresh breads to the Belmont community for more than a century.
Founded in 1918, the family-owned bakery has remained in the neighborhood for over 100 years, with ownership passed down through generations.
Today, it is run by Daniel, the great-grandson of the original founder, who continues the tradition with pride.
Inside the bakery, the bread-making process stays true to its roots. Using just four ingredients, the team carefully weighs the dough, refrigerates it, scores the top to release steam, and bakes each loaf to perfection.
On top of having up to twenty employees helping both in front and back of house, Daniel is always there, making sure anyone that walks in has a loaf of bread to bring home to their family.
Daniel says each batch is more than just bread — it's a connection to his family's legacy.
"Not many people can say they're doing something that has connected generations of their family in the same place for over 100 years, especially here in The Bronx," he said.
Along Arthur Avenue, Madonia Bakery stands as a reminder that preserving family traditions is just as important as producing quality food.
