An Oceanside street was named in honor of a local hero who answered the call of duty on 9/11.
The corner of Stevens Street and Atlantic Avenue will now bear the name of Denis McLarney, who responded to Ground Zero and ultimately gave his life after succumbing later to a 9/11-related illness.
McLarney, who had served 13 years with the New York City Police Department, was 49 years old when he died.
At the ceremony on Saturday, his wife, two sons, friends, neighbors and the NYPD ceremonial unit gathered to honor his life and service.
