A man is accused of stealing money from a donation box on multiple occasions in Suffolk County.
Suffolk Police Major Case Unit Detectives conducted an investigation into several larcenies at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island in Manorville.
With the assistance of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, detectives arrested Piotr Nerkowski, 49, of Lindenhurst.
Police tell News 12 Nerkowski took money from the shrine’s donation box, located on Eastport Manor Road, on various nights from March 29 to April 19.
Detectives located the man at the CVS Pharmacy on East Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst on Wednesday morning and placed him under arrest.
He will be charged with grand larceny, resisting arrest and criminal mischief when he is arraigned on Thursday.
