A former baseball player at a Long Island college has filed a lawsuit against the school alleging hazing.
The 18-year-old from Manorville claims his St. Joseph’s University teammates attacked him inside of a hotel room during a team trip in March.
According to the court documents, this incident was part of a pattern of misconduct that happened for years.
The suit, filed in State Supreme Court in Suffolk County on Monday, claims the specific assault happened after the teen refused to participate in other hazing activities -- like stripping naked.
The alleged victim says university officials were aware of or should have known that such misconduct was going on for some time and were not sufficiently supervising the players.
Head Coach, Thomas Caputo, Assistant Coach, Elliot Robles and 30 unidentified members of the team are named in the lawsuit, which involves claims of negligent supervision of student athletes, negligent hiring, and assault and battery, among other things.
News 12 has reached out to the Patchogue university for comment on the allegations and are waiting to hear back.
