First responders rescued a dog from under a shed at a house in Suffolk County Wednesday afternoon.
The Bay Shore Fire Department responded to the report of a pet, named Cody, trapped at a residence on Gardiner Dr. in Bay Shore.
Once on scene, Chief John Ippolito, Jr. and 1st Asst. Chief Nick Danza, members of the department’s Emergency Service Squad, along with Suffolk police officers, began performing a quick size-up.
Crews tried digging a trench to let the animal access the front of the shed, but he got scared and moved deeper underneath, fire officials say.
Chief Ippolito then requested air bags and Jaws of Life rescue tools, along with some wood cribbing from the backyard of the home to help.
After approximately 20 minutes, the canine was successfully freed without further incident and reunited with its thankful owners.
This call was just one of nine that the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to on Wednesday.
