Nassau County police say a 56-year-old construction worker died after being pulled from an underground work area where he was submerged in water following a water main break in Uniondale.
Police say they responded to the area of Ring Road at around 11:15 a.m. Friday.
Detectives say the worker had been working underground, when water from a broken main submerged the area. His coworkers pulled him out, and saving measures were performed.
Ring Road between Stewart Avenue and Zeckendorf Boulevard were shut down but has since reopened.
The Town of Hempstead Water Department assisted in turning off the main water line.
The worker was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
There is no word on what caused the water main break.
