Students in Suffolk County are getting real world experience operating and working at a business – without even having to leave school.
Comsewogue High School unveiled its new student-run Spartan Store at their Port Jefferson Station campus Thursday.
The store is part of their goal of giving the teens real-world skill development, along with opportunities for problem-based learning and hands-on practice in entrepreneurship, the district says.
The project was made possible through a state grant secured by NYS Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay, who was on hand for Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.
An integral component in Comsewogue's transition to its new Spartan mascot, the shop will have new spirit wear, designed by students, available for purchase.
Additionally, students can redeem coins they’re awarded for positive behavior for merchandise.
