A fiery car crash left a man dead Friday afternoon in Nissequogue, according to Suffolk police.

Authorities say John Morici, of Nesconset, was leaving the driveway of a house on Pheasant Run when the vehicle went off the path and down a rear-yard embankment around 3:40 p.m.

The car erupted in flames after coming to a stop. The 61-year-old exited and immediately collapsed.

Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are working to determine if the fire was caused by an object striking the vehicle’s undercarriage.
