Carl Lightman, of East Rockaway, went to the Oceanside FedEx on Long Beach Road last October to take care of some packages for his wife.
He had his wife Anita's two David Yurman rings, worth $1,200, in a package to send to the company to be repaired, as well as a package containing a $340 leather jacket to send to Nordstrom to be returned.
Lightman says the employee at FedEx appeared distracted and placed the wrong labels on the packages.
Lightman said David Yurman (the jewelry company) received the leather jacket and sent it back to him. He was then to return it to Nordstrom, getting a $340 credit.
But Lightman believes the David Yurman jewelry was sent to Nordstrom and may have been discarded, because he says when he inquired with Nordstrom, he was told that when they get a return that's not their merchandise, that's what happens.
Lightman said he's frustrated and angry that FedEx denied his claim. He claims the company told him they were not responsible because the labels placed on the packages were third-party labels not purchased by him.
News 12 reached out to FedEx and Nordstrom and is awaiting responses.
