Elizabeth police officers were sent to the hospital earlier today after a four-car collision at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Second Street.

City officials say the officers were responding to a call when another vehicle slammed into their cruiser, triggering a chain-reaction involving two additional cars.

Authorities have not yet confirmed how many officers were inside the police vehicle at the time of the crash.

One other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
