A man was arrested for a large amount of marijuana after police responded to a call for a burglary on the East End early Thursday morning.
The Southampton Town Police Department says they received a 911 call around 1 a.m. reporting a home invasion at 194 West Neck Road in Southampton.
Upon arrival, officers found a man who had suffered a laceration to his head and were told all other parties had fled the scene.
Following an investigation, detectives observed a large quantity of marijuana in plain sight inside the residence and contacted the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office East End Drug Task Force to assist.
A search warrant was executed and a total of 1,000 pounds of marijuana was seized, which had been packaged for sale and distribution, according to police.
Antonio Velay, 27, of Southampton, was taken to a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and will subsequently face a felony charge of criminal possession of cannabis.
